Sue’s story

“I discovered Newbold Comyn when I first moved to this area in 1995.”

I remember going for lots of walks there when expecting my first child in 1996 – and then, as the years went on, we used to swim at the Leisure Centre every week. We also loved sledging down the Beacon on snowy days!

Now, I love Newbold for riding my horse. She’s stabled at Spa View Farm just at the top of Campion Hill.

I don’t have a trailer to take her out and about, so I hugely appreciate the virtually traffic-free access to the Comyn horse route.

The route has really varied terrain and we come across lots of other Comyn users – walkers, runners, cyclists, dogs. Learning to manage all that is brilliant for a horse’s mental agility!

For me the best thing about Newbold is that it is a lightly managed open space – just a wonderful place to be.
