Why we love Newbold Comyn

Everyone we speak to has a different story about the Comyn.

Some of us have lived in Leamington all our lives, others moved here from around the UK or overseas.

We all discovered Newbold Comyn in our own way and we all have different experiences of it. Some of us have spent time there every day and made lifelong friends because of it.

What’s clear is that this isn’t just some old park in the town, it isn’t that it’s just a nice green space we can exercise on.

No, for many of us, there’s a real emotional attachment with the Comyn. A connection….

“I couldn’t believe the amount of space.”

Kate moved to Leamington in 1995. She discovered Newbold Comyn after wandering around some of the smaller parks in the area with her first dog, Jerry. She couldn’t believe there was so much dog-friendly space, right in the centre of the town.

“Jerry was the first dog to discover the Comyn with me and we would walk for miles. Since then every rescue dog I’ve ever had has enjoyed the space and freedom of this wonderful place.”

Newbold is Suzanne’s ‘go to’ place.

“I’ve lived here all my life – having such a lovely space close by has greatly helped my mental health over the years.”

Kay found the Comyn a lifesaver during lockdown.

“I’d walk my rescue dog for hours in the early mornings. It was so peaceful and beautiful.”

“Meeting different people and riding such varied terrain is brilliant for a horse’s mental agility.”

Sue loves to ride her horse each day on the Comyn.

“We’d play hide and seek, roll down Beacon Hill, and build dens!”

Tracey’s first memories of Newbold Comyn are from the late 1970s.

“A drop of Newbold Comyn is mind-blowing.”

“What I’ve always loved about Newbold is the space, and the variety of ways people find to explore, enjoy and love the environment.”

“When our baby was born, it was the first place we took her for a walk.”

“My boyfriend at the time took me to the Comyn to watch the geese in the sunset. He’s been my husband now for 32 years.”
