Newbold Comyn is a 300 acre green space in the heart of Leamington Spa
It’s used and loved by many, and this affection and appreciation was never more obvious than during the lockdowns of 2020. Suddenly we were confined to our homes, restricted from seeing friends, unable to go out and socialise.
With so many freedoms curtailed, it didn’t take us long to realise how valuable this huge outdoor space was. Every day, walkers and their dogs, families, couples, fitness groups, cyclists, friends and loved ones used the Comyn, able to keep a distance but still see each other.
The FoNC wants to preserve and protect this wonderful open space
It really is special. There are football pitches, nature reserves, woods, bike tracks, open fields, even a model aeroplane area, known as the Flying Field.
There are currently no restrictions for dogs, apart from where one public footpath crosses the Old Golf Course. We’d like to keep it this way.
It’s important that everyone retains equal access to every part of it
Every member of the community should be able to enjoy it. No one should be prioritised, and no one should be restricted.
Newbold shouldn’t be developed any further, and it shouldn’t be commercialised.
